The NY Haskell Users Group is for all programmers either interested in or experienced with the Haskell programming language. We want to build a community of Haskell developers in the New York area that can share knowledge, projects, and experience, and to generally foster and encourage strongly typed functional programming, in all languages, all settings, and all industries. Our events will center around talks, but we intend to have other sorts of activities, including social hours, code worksho …

A group for Haskellers in and around New York City.
In this group we'll make our way through the book "Seven Languages in Seven Weeks: A Pragmatic Guide to Learning Programming Languages," by Bruce Tate. It's a quick deep-dive into seven very different languages: Ruby, Io, Prolog, Scala, Erlang, Clojure and Haskell. I know almost nothing about these languages myself -- I'm a JavaScript guy with some very limited exposure to Ruby -- and do not expect to become an expert in any of them overnight, but I am excited to dive into paradigms I know nothi …

Semi-regular tutorials/discussions about OCaml language features and libraries. A meetup should ideally center around a topic which (1) contains some interesting core idea, (2) helps us get stuff done, (3) is reasonably accessible to people without a ton of OCaml experience (but who might be familiar with other MLs, Haskell, Scheme, etc...)
Are you a woman* who loves programming and has been searching for a similar bunch of ladies to eat cupcakes and discuss code with? Are you happier discussing Ruby** than rubies over coffee? If so, you’ve come to the right place! We meet at least once a month to hack on projects, give casual 5-minute lightning talks, ask all of our technical questions, and toss around ideas together. It's a great way to make new friends, and to bounce ideas off each other to keep improving our coding skills. Thin …

Come join other enthusiastic computer programmers in the Hudson Valley. Members of this group should be interested in data structures, algorithms, and writing clever, powerful programs in a variety of languages. There will be a focus during the meetings about writing correct code that fits the philosophy of the language and paradigm it is written in. Some meetings will be spent going over old programming problems (perhaps from ACM or ICFP or TopCoder) and devising the best solution that we kno …
Calling all Reiki Practitioners… A Reiki Circle/Share is a gathering of Reiki practitioners who congregate for a combination social/healing session. A Reiki share consists of many healing hands on one person at a time. One person lays on a table while the participating practitioners gather around that person, laying their hands upon him/her facilitating a massive flow of Reiki energies. Group energies are often very strong and can be more than individual sessions. This type of Reiki treatment is …

Socially Functional is a meetup group for programmers that like to chat/scheme/vent about functional programming. It is also known as Functional Alcoholics, which is a hilarious pun except when people see it out of context and think you have a drinking problem. We have weekly hacking sessions at a coffee shop, and bar meetups at fairly random intervals. If you have an idea for a good bar or other venue, post it!

This group is for people interested in the Scala programming language and related projects like the Play web framework. We can meetup and help each other learn. I'm not sure about the format yet, but we could have mini presentations or classes, discussions, study halls, share code, etc.
